Mother Dear?

When I was a younger man I was walking through Tescos to pick up a few things when I noticed an elderly lady following me around.

Thinking nothing of it, I ignored her and continued doing my shopping.

As I got to the checkout line, she had got in line directly in front of me.

“Pardon me,” she said, “I’m sorry if my staring at you has made you feel uncomfortable.

“It’s just that you look just like my son, who emigrated to Australia recently.”

“I’m so sorry,” I replied, “is there anything I can do for you?”

“Yes,” she said, “As I’m leaving, can you say ‘Good bye, Mother’? It would make me feel so much better.”

“Sure,” I replied.
As the old woman left I called out, as she had requested, “Goodbye, Mother!”

Having put all my purchases through the checkout I realised that the till total was £127.59!

“How can that be?” I asked, “I only purchased a few things!”

“Oh, your mother said that you would pay for her stuff too.” said the lady on the till.
