Windows 8

I amazed myself today by loading the pre-beta version of Windows 8 onto a spare Sony laptop I have at home.

My first impressions are very good. It successfully installed on this system which had started out as Vista, had been updated to Windows 7 (when that was in beta testing) and finally properly upgraded to a full release version of Windows 7.

The download took ages using the laptop I was modifying and I created a loadable DVD. Then still running in Windows 7 I ran the disc and the software upgraded painlessly.

A couple of reboots later Windows 8 was running.

Now I will test the new environment with the knowledge that the laptop lacks a touch screen.

I am going to enjoy taking this for a ride over the next few days.
